PURPOSE:To recognize a transmitter before raising a handset by a receiver, by identifying a telephone set at a transmission side by a transmission station identification circuit assembled in an automatic telephone exchange, and displaying the transmitter on the telephone set at a reception side by a liquid crystal display control circuit. CONSTITUTION:By placing a call from a telephone set I to a telephone set II, an exchange III is connected to the line of the telephone set II at an exchange circuit 7 in an automatic telephone exchange III, and simultaneously, the telephone set I at the transmission side is recognized by a transmission station identification circuit 8, and by operating a liquid crystal display control circuit 9, a signal representing that a transmission station is the telephone set I is transmitted to the transmission/ reception circuit 3b of the telephone set II that is the reception side. A bell 4b in the telephone set II is rung by the connection of the exchange III to the line, and also, the signal transmitted from the control circuit 9 is inputted to a liquid crystal display pattern storage circuit 5b, and the fact who is the transmitter, for example, the signal of 'OO is on the telephone.' is read out, out of various kinds of display patterns stored in the storage circuit 5b, and 'OO is on the telephone.' is displayed in characters on a liquid crystal display 6b.
