PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption and to improve the operability of a VTR by stopping the supply of a power source to image pickup devices except for a system control means and a recording means when video tape recording stops. CONSTITUTION:The system control part 1 obtains pieces of information from a start/stop switch 40, other various operation switches 44 and a variety of sensors 42, and outputs a variety of power source control signals and a variety of system control signals. Then the system is brought into the prescribed action state, and a variety of display devices 43 are caused to execute various display actions. When a video tape recording stop signal is inputted through the switch 40, a power source device part 2 is controlled so that the supply of the power source to the circuits except for the control part 1 will stop. Based on the power source control signal from the control part 1, the power source part 2 supplies and stops the power source to the image pickup devices 3 and a rotating head type magnetic recording and reproducing device part 4. As a result installation of a power saving means and its operation become unnecessary, thereby improving the operability of the VTR.
