In the fastening and mounting of door handles 10 in a steel door 1, there is only the relatively thin door plate 2, 3 of the steel door 1 in which to fasten the door handles 10 or their bearings 11, 12. A fastening unit is therefore proposed, which comprises a door handle rosette 13 bearing against the outer side of the door plate and covering the door hole 7, 8, and a plate-like deformable element 14, which is connected to the door handle rosette by means of clamping members 17, 18 and which has a fit opening 15 for the door handle 10 or its bearing 11, 12 and is situated on the inner side of the door plate 2, 3. During mounting, the plate-like element 14 is deformed within the door hole and butts against its edge, whilst the door handle 10 or its bearing 11, 12 is secured in the fit opening 15 in the element 14. <IMAGE>
