PURPOSE:To always keep the continuity of the horizontal synchronizing signal period of a reproduced still image signal by cancelling the 0.5-H delay in the case that the switching of reproducing mode from the field still image reproducing mode to the frame still picture reproducing mode is executed within the 0.5-H-delayed field period. CONSTITUTION:A reproducing mode control circuit 24, in usual operation, controls so that a head switching switch16 is switched to a contact (a) side, and at the same time controls so that delay line switching switches 19 and 22 are aternately switched to contacts (c) and (d) at every one turning of a magnetic sheet 30, based on a TACH signal obtained from a rotation detection head 31. When a magnetic head 13 reproduces data from a frame still image signal are recorded, the reproducing mode control circuit 24 lets the switches 19 and 22 turn to the contact (d) side based on a discrimination output from a discrimination circuit 23 to release the 0.5-H delaying of a reproduced still image signal by 0.5H delay lines 18 and 21, and further lets the head switching switch 16 turn to a contact (b) side to switch the currently-used magnetic head from 13 to 14. As a result, the discontinuity at the field boundary that may occur to a horizontal synchronizing signal period and a color difference signal is prevented from occurring.
