PURPOSE:To improve acceleration properties through increase of an engine output, by a method wherein, when a combustible maximum injection amount exceeds an allowable maximum injection amount under the acceleration running state of an engine, a combustible maximum inejction amount of fuel is fed to an engine. CONSTITUTION:Based on outputs from sensors 1 and 2, a CPU 11 computes a deviation between the desired value and the actual value of the number of revolutions of an engine. Based on an output from a sensor 3, a maximum injection amount responding to a supercharging pressure is read from a memory 5, and the injection amount or an injection amount based on said deviation, whichever is low, is selected as a first desired injection amount. Further, based on an output from the sensor 2, a maximum injection amount responding to the number of revolutions of an engine is read from a memory 6, and the inejction amount or the first desired injection amount, whichever is low, is selected as a second desired inejction amount. In this case, during acceleration of the engine, a control rack 7 is controlled so that an amount of fuel injected with the aid of a pump 8 is adjsuted to the first desired injection amount.
