CONTINUOUS MANUFACTURE OF HYPEREUTECTIC AL-SI ALLOY

PURPOSE:To easily obtain a wear resistant material having a homogenous fine microstructure and mechanical properties comparable to those of a material obtd. by powder metallurgical processing by subjecting a molten hypereutectic Al-Si alloy to high-speed rotation, agitation and casting. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum vessel 1 is evacuated and a hypereutectic Al-Si alloy in a crucible 11 is melted. The molten alloy is dropped on a polygonal rotator 20 rotating around a horizontal shaft 23 at a high speed in a receiver 21. The dropped alloy is scattered as fine drops and the resulting powdered half-molten alloy is received in the receiver 21 and recovered as a semisolid massive aggregate having a homogeneous fine microstructure.
