PURPOSE:To enable the shortening of production line stop time due to cutter exchange as much as possible by arranging two or more cutter stands in series and movable in a direction orthogonal with the line within the same slitter line. CONSTITUTION:Primary and secondary cutter stands 10 and 11 are arranged in series within the same slitter line and made movable along a rail 15 orthogonal with each production line. And when a cutter is exchanged with the slitter, the coupling of a cutter stand so far used, for example, the coupling of the secondary cutter 11 is disengaged from the reduction gear 13 of a drive part 12 and drawn outside the line along the rail 15. Then, the primary cutter stand 10 with a renewed cutter is set into the line along the rail 15 and the coupling 14 is connected to the reduction gear 13, thereby obtaining a condition to permit rotary drive with the drive part 12. In this way, line stop time due to cutter exchange can be shortened substantially and safely, and a cut product of good quality can be obtained at a highly efficient operation rate.
