PURPOSE:To permit the following ship to easily sail, by providing a protecting plate in the front surface of a float, which resiliently supports guide members horizontally to both sides, further towing an ice water opening course guide device, having a tow cable mooring means, by an icebreaker. CONSTITUTION:Guide arms 3 (guide member) are resiliently supported by springs 10 to both side arm supporting pipes 5 of a float 1. While a protrusive protecting plate 4 is provided in a front surface of the float 1. If the above device is towed, wires 6 are pulled by advancing force of an icebreaker 16, and force is generated via pulleys 7, 8 acting on the guide arms 3 at a right angle inward with respect to the towing direction. While force is generated acting on tires 2 to press by repulsive force by springs 13 the guide arms 3 from their insides to ice walls in waterway peripheral edge parts. As the result, the guide ram 3, which advances along the ice wall, enables a change of the ice wall by its raggedness to be absorbed. That is, the icebreaker pushes apart a thin freezing layer starting a refreeze almost over the whole region of the ice water opened course, and the effect of narrowing a distance between the icebreaker and the following ship is obtained.
