PURPOSE:To obtain a copy having high image density and high image quality by an alpha-Si compound photosensitive body which can obtain only low potential contrast, by using a wet type roller developing method, and also, setting a gap between a developing roller and the photosensitive body to a specific range. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic latent image is formed on an alpha-Si compound photosensitive body 1, it is developed by a wet type roller developing method, and transferred on usual paper 11, and a gap (developing gap) between developing rollers 4, 5 and the photosensitive body 1 is set to a range of 0.05-0.2mm, and preferably, about 0.1mm is suitable. A developer is supplied to the surface of the photosensitive body 1 through the rotating developing rollers 4, 5 from a supply port 8, and a surplus developer is discharged from a discharge port 9. If the gap between the surface of the photosensitive body 1 and the developing rollers 4, 5 is narrower than 0.05mm, the developer is not supplied smoothly, and if said gap is wider than 0.2mm, an electric field of the developing rollers 4, 5 and the photosensitive body 1 is weakened and the image density is not raised, or an image comes to have an edge effect, therefore, both of them are undesirable.
