PURPOSE:To stabilize the printing of a bold character and to enhance the erasing quality thereof at the time of an erasion, by driving two phases by a chopper when the excitation of a stepping motor is two-phase excitation type when a carriage is driven at a predetermined pitch to be stopped is two-phase excitation. CONSTITUTION:A control part 6 is equipped with a carriage motor control part 7, a carriage motor phase discriminating part 8 for discriminating whether the winding of said motor receiving the supply of a current presently is one phase or two phases and a carriage moving pitch memory part 9 for storing a carriage moving pitch. When the final exciting phase of the carriage motor at the stop time thereof is two phases, these two phases are driven by a chopper to make the torque of the motor almost the same to that at the first and third times of one-phase excitation because the chopper driving of two phases is performed at the second printing time of an 'A' character even if the carriage is shifted by one pitch to perform printing three times when the bold printing of the character 'A' is performed for example. Therefore, the stop position of the carriage becomes stable and the 'A' character can be printed at an almost equal interval. Further, because the stop position accuracy of the carriage is enhanced when an erasion is performed, a stable erasing operation is enabled. |
