PURPOSE:To realize a long life of an image carrying body, and to stabilize an image having a good quality by providing a means for varying a pressure contact force of a cleaning roller in accordance with humidity of the environment. CONSTITUTION:In the vicinity of an electrifier 8, a sensor for detecting the humidity or the temperature and humidity is placed, and the environment is measured thereby, it is compared with a reference value which has been determined in advance, by a controller 10, and a solenoid 15 is energized and de- energized by turning on and off a power source 11. By energizing and de- energizing the solenoid, a pressure contact force to a photosensitive body, of a cleaning roller is varied, therefore, a pressure contact action of the roller can be varied in accordance with humidity. In this way, by adjusting the pressure contact action of the cleaning roller in accordance with the humidity or the temperature and humidity of the environment, the quantity to be ground, and a damage of an image carrying body are decreased remarkably and its life is extended, and an image of a good quality can be obtained stably extending over a long period of time.
