PURPOSE:To minimize the mixture of molten steel between precede heat and succeeding heat and to improve the production yield, by sticking the faced solidified shells by contractional pressing to the boundary part of different quality at the time of sequential casting for the different quality. CONSTITUTION:The casting operation for molten steel having some steel quality, from a casting nozzle 3 into a mold 4 is finished and in succession, when the casting operation for molten steel having the other different steel quality is started, the mixture of the molten steel 1 by the precede heat and the molten steel 1 having the different quality by the succeeding heat is started. And the part, which the mixture starts, that is, the boundary part in a casting slab 2 having the different quality, is shifted to the position of one pair of contractional presses 6, 6, and then the casting slab 6 is pressed under contraction by the contractional presses 6, 6 as driving a driving device 7, 7 to stick the faced solidified shells 21. After that, the constractional presses 6, 6 are opened, and further the continuous casting operation is continued. Therefore, the mixture of the different steel quality mutually between the molten steel 1 for the precede heat casting slab 2 and the molten steel 2 for the succeeding heat casting slab 2, is minimized and the cut-off length of the boundary part is shortened.
