PURPOSE:To eliminate or prevent the sticking and accumulation of contamination caused by a developer on the surface opposed to the photosensitive body of an image forming element by a simple mechanism, by providing a movable dust-proof member. CONSTITUTION:The dust-proof member 4 is held in a position separated from the surface of an image forming element, by a rotary member 5 provided on a position where the optical path of the image forming element is not obstructed, when an optical write operation is being executed. In this state, said member is operated so as to wipe the surface opposed to the photosensitive body of the image forming element by the rotation of a rotary member 5 at a suitable time point except the optical write operation, and cleans the surface of the image forming element by wiping a developer stuck and accumulated on the surface of the image forming element. Also, when a movable dust-proof member consisting of an obstructing member and an opening and closing mechanism is provided, the obstructing member is turned so that an optical path of the image forming element is not obstructed by the opening and closing mechanism, when the optical write operation is being executed. In case of the time point except the optical write operation, the surface opposed to the photosensitive body of the image forming element is covered with the obstructing member, by which is is prevented that the developer is stuck and accumulated on the surface of the image forming element.
