The invention relates to an apparatus for compressing wastes of all types, which is simple to handle and cost-effective to produce. This apparatus makes it possible to compress the waste effectively; it occupies little space and can be arranged close to the waste container so as always to be easy of access. The apparatus according to the invention consists of a long handle, at one end of which a plate is centrally arranged, this plate being rounded with particular radius in one of its corner regions, while two adjoining end faces of the plate extend at an angle to each other and form an edge. Moreover, the plate possesses a semicircular rounding.
