PURPOSE:To improve a reading capacity for a bit of picture information, by providing an original platen formed with a plate of transparent raw material, and a scanning part to scan the surface of the original platen, and to read the bit of picture information on an original under the original platen. CONSTITUTION:A roller 13 is provided on the opened bottom plane 2b of a scanning part 2, and the scanning part 2 can be easily moved on an original platen 3. Within the inside of the scanning part 2, a LED array 14, a focusing optical transmitter 12, and a CCD array 11 are provided. The light beams of the LED array 14 that is a light source are irradiated on the upper surface of the original platen 3 from the bottom plane 2b, and reflected light beams are introduced to the CCD array 11 through the focusing optical transmitter 12. The CCD array 11 is constituted so that plural number of one-dimensional CCD sensors are arranged in a line in the vertical direction of a scanning direction in the array, and the presence/absence of a picture generates difference in a reflected light quantity, and the difference in the reflected light quantity is read by the CCD array 11, and is converted to an electrical signal. Thereby, an accurate reading for the bit of picture information of the original or a three- dimensional object having irregularity, can be performed, and the reading function for the bit of picture information can be improved.
