The present invention relates to a process and a device for the treatment of textile yarns and more particularly the thermosetting of these yarns. The installation comprises a steaming cabinet 10, a first upstream cold chamber 11 and a second downstream cold chamber 12. The upstream chamber 11 has a length at least equal to that of the downstream chamber 12. The upstream and downstream chambers are connected by means of a pressure-balancing conduit 33. A fan 29 sucks up steam at the top of the steaming cabinet in order to reinject it, after heating by means of a heating body 32, into a perforated box 31 which emits jets of steam under the conveyor belt 15, itself perforated. The upstream cold chamber and the steaming cabinet can comprise means for generating a temperature gradient from upstream in the downstream direction, in order to prevent the yarns 16 from experiencing a thermal shock when they pass through the steaming cabinet 10. This installation is equipped to prevent the threads from having different dyeing affinities as the result of a momentary stop of the machine. <IMAGE>
