PURPOSE:To detect the weight of an article to be conveyed before conveyance to make it possible to prevent the material from abnormally stopping and running away, by providing a weight detecting mechanism for detecting the weight of the article to be conveyed, which is stored in the storage section of a carriage, in one end part of a branch conveying path remote from the main conveying path. CONSTITUTION:In an article 18 to be conveyed such as, a chart, a slip or the like, is conveyed from a medical management section to an internal department, when the article 18 is set on a supply bed 41 in a weight detecting mechanism 30 in the lower section of a chute 23, a spring 42 is compressed. If l0-l1<=x', where l0 is the distance between the supply bed 41 and a sensor 43 before the article 18 is set on the bed 41, and l1 is the distance therebetween after the article 18 is set thereon, no signal is delivered from the sensor 43 so that a signal is fed to a motor 47 for a conveyer belt 29 provided with pawls, through a NOT circuit 46. Then, when the belt 29 is driven, the article 18 on the bed 41 is shifted into a main conveying path 1, 2 and therefore, the carrier may be smoothly conveyed. Further, if l0-l1>x', the signal is delivered from the sensor 43, and an alarm device 45 issues an alarm to indicate that the weight of the article exceed a set value.
