Process and device for removing solvent fumes

For removing solvent fumes, such as trichloroethylene, to be fed to a solvent recovery system, from a vessel, the latter is flooded with a displacement liquid such as water. The solvent may be recovered from the relatively small, highly concentrated gas volume by means of a comparatively inexpensive recovery system. After the displacement process, the liquid is let out of the vessel, with the latter being aerated, so that the vessel can fill with fresh air. The displacement liquid is preferably transferred alternately between a buffer tank and the vessels to be cleaned.
