In a cooking appliance having a housing part (1) and an electric hotplate (3) inserted into an opening in the housing part, the hotplate (3) is connected to the housing part (1) by a sealing ring (8) which, on one side, bears on a collar-like projection with cylindrical outer face (7) extending as far as the upper side of the plate and has a portion (10) extending in the plane of the upper side of the plate, which terminates in a bent-down edge (11) resting on the housing part (1). In this way, it is possible to arrange the hotplate (3) with its upper face substantially flush with the upper side of the housing part (1). In addition, such a sealing ring (21) makes it possible to interconnect plate parts (4, 5) which are arranged concentrically with one another, can be switched independently of one another and are optionally also equipped with temperature control means. <IMAGE>
