Some vehicles with four wheel drive cannot have the four wheel drive disengaged. The brakes can be tested in this case by driving the two wheels of the same axle in opposite directions. In this case, during testing the rotational speed of the two wheels is measured and maintained at the same value. This prevents a torque from being introduced into the cardan (articulated) shaft and also prevents the other axis, which cannot be disengaged, from falsifying the measured braking torque.
