The signals are represented in a fixed-ratio code, for example in a (three from seven) code. A specific bit string is allocated to each signal within a signal block. In the case of a signal with the one value, this bit string is transmitted via a first channel and, in the case of a signal with the other value, via a different channel. A check is carried out at the receiving end to establish whether the received bit string corresponds to the bit string expected for the signal. In addition to the bit string transmitted via one channel, a bit string which is inverted in relation to the former is transmitted via the other channel. The non-equivalence of the two bit strings is monitored at the receiving end. Only the bit string which satisfies the conditions of the agreed fixed-ratio code is used at the receiving end to recover the signal present at the transmitting end. The device according to the invention enables the identification of previously undetectable corruption of a signal which is to be transmitted. <IMAGE>
