PURPOSE:To prevent collision between preceding and following articles in a system for carrying articles by gravity on inclined rails by actuating braking means with respect to the bottom of the following article to brake the same when there remains the preceding article at the outlet of the rails. CONSTITUTION:If there remains a preceding article at the outlet end of rails 20, 21, 34, 35, a detector 37 detects such existence. This causes a mechanical valve incorporated in the detector 37 to operate, so that compressed air in a lift for rollers 27 is supplied from a drain 31 through a pipe 40 to a brake pad lifting mechanism not shown to lift brake pads 38, 39, until they are projected beyond the rails 20, 21, 34, 45. Therefore, the following article is braked by the brake pads 38, 39 to stop. This is effective to prevent collision of the following article against the preceding one as well as destruction of packing.
