PURPOSE:To make it possible to reconcile both space saving ability and working ability, by operating an automatic tool exchanger in the center space section of a ring-like magazine so that the magazine may be arranged just before a spindle. CONSTITUTION:When a tool detection signal is issued just before a tool exchange position under a tool exchange instruction, an ATC device 11 which stands by, gripping the next tool, initiates the swing operation toward a spindle 1, and therefore, a cam follower in the ATC device 11 abuts against a stopper when the spindle 1 stops at the tool exchange position, to complete the swing operation. Then a tool 13 to be returned into a magazine 10 is held by an arm 15 at the original point, and after completion of machining, the spindle 1 initiates to react to a predetermined position for tool exchange. In this phase, a long cylinder 15b advances, the tool 13 is restrained from being gripping, and a bracket 11 is rotated toward the magazine to locate the tool at position confronting a tool pot 12. When the long cylinder 15b moves back, the tool 13 is stored in the tool pot 12 so that the restraint between the arm 15 and the tool 13 is released, thereby it is possible to reconcile both working ability and space saving ability. |
