The invention relates to a wood-burning heating apparatus with exposed hearth of the type consisting of an embeddable metal case 1 provided with doors 9 made of transparent materials and equipped with a hood 18 and with a flame-deflecting plate 4 forming a depression box above which emerges a smoke-outlet sleeve 3, this case being lined with a double partition 2 forming a heat recovering device. Such an apparatus is intended to operate with open or closed hearth on any type of smoke conduit having a minimum cross-section of 250 cm<2> and comprises a flame deflector 4 fitted at its end with a movable part 5 actuated by the opening of the door 9 which itself is provided with adjustable frontal and lateral vents for operating with closed hearth; the said door may be retracted under the whole apparatus by means of two double-angle lugs 10 provided with spindles 11 moving in a slot 12. The base of the apparatus is equipped with two T-shaped iron parts 21 intended to be engaged in a V-shaped slideway so as to position the apparatus precisely in its embedding structure. <IMAGE>
