NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1-R3 are H or methyl). EXAMPLE:2,2-Bis[3,5-dimethyl-4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]propane. USE:Useful as a monomer for heat-resistant polymer, especially a raw material for various resins having excellent flexibility and moldability such as polyamide, polyimide, etc., or a raw material for heat-resistant adhesives. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by condensing a 4,4'-bisphenol compound of formula II with m-dinitrobenzene in an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of a base and catalytically reducing the resultant compound of formula III with a metallic catalyst (e.g. Pd) at 20-100 deg.C. The condensation reaction of bisphenol compound and m-dinitrobenzene can be carried out without addition of a reaction accelerator such as a phase-transfer catalyst.
