A known switching mechanism, which is assigned to a single-pole electrical protection circuit breaker, has a manually operable switching toggle and has a release lever which can be deflected by a sensor, is used for the manual closing and disconnection of a contact interruption point and for the automatic disconnection of this contact interruption point if an overcurrent or a short-circuit current occurs. It consists of two plate-like carrier elements which are firmly connected to one another and between which there are constructed a first fixed-position rotary bearing point jointly for the switching toggle and at the same time for the release lever, a second fixed-position rotary bearing point for a latching lever and a third fixed-position rotary bearing point for a spring-loaded contact-carrier lever. In addition, arranged between the carrier elements are two transmission levers which are connected to one another in a hinged manner at their one end and one of which is connected at a hinge point at its other end at the same time to the switching toggle and the other is connected at a hinge point at its other end at the same time to the contact carrier lever. This switching mechanism has been developed and redesigned such that it can be assigned to a two-pole or multipole protection circuit breaker (11), for example to a three-phase motor protection circuit breaker, and can be mounted on the power block (12) of said circuit breaker. The contact carrier lever (18) of the switching mechanism is [lacuna] as an insulating [lacuna] extending transversely with respect to the plate-like carrier elements (16, 17) and via their ...
