PURPOSE:To record a signal at a low frequency band and to miniaturize a camera main body by adopting a constitution that an image pickup tube output is subjected to a sample holding at a phase shifted by a prescribed interval at every scanning line, the output is recorded onto a VTR, the result is reproduced and sampled at every scanning line at the said prescribed interval. CONSTITUTION:The image pickup tube output of scanning lines 161, 162, 163... is subjected to T sequential sample holding respectively by a sample holding circuit 14, the output of the image pickup tube 8 is subjected to sequential T sample holding at a phase shifted by (2/7)T at each set at every scanning line and the result is extracted. The circuit 14, in this case, is switched to shift the phase of the sample holding at each set by (2/7)T at every scanning line. Thus, the output signal frequency of the image pickup tube 8 is 1/3.5 at each set in comparison with the frequency extracting the signal of all positions of the scanning line at each set. The output signal of the circuit 14 is fed to a VTR 12 and recorded. In this case, since the frequency of the image pickup signal is 1/3.5 at each set, the recording frequency band is decreased. Further, in case of reproduction, the sample holding position is deviated similarly as above and the signal is reproduced.
