PURPOSE:To detect the level of liquid without contacting the liquid directly by allowing a receiver to receive an electromagnetic wave or sound wave from a transmitter provided above the liquid level and detecting whether or not the liquid level reaches a target reservoir liquid level. CONSTITUTION:This detecting device is equipped with a liquid storage tank 10, a reflecting plate 14 provided on the side wall 12 of the liquid storage tank 10 at the target reservoir liquid level of the liquid 22 put in the tank, the transmitter 16 which is provided above the reservoir liquid level and transmits the electromagnetic wave or sound wave omega to the reflecting plate 14, the receiver 18 which receives the electromagnetic wave or sound wave omega reflected by the reflecting plate 14, and a detecting means 20 which compares the intensity of the electromagnetic wave or sound wave omega reflected by the reflecting plate 14 with a set level value and detects whether or not the liquid level reaches the target reservoir liquid level. Then when the liquid level in the liquid storage tank 10 is below the reflecting plate 14, the electromagnetic wave or sound wave omega is received by the receiver 18 and a detecting means 20 detects its intensity being larger than a set level value, thereby detecting the liquid level not reaching the fitting position of the reflecting plate 14. |
