PURPOSE:To make adhesion between an active material existing between single holes ever so better as well as to prevent internal short inside the battery from occurring, by installing a smaller hole than the single hole between these single holes of an opening hole part at a boundary part of a non-opening hole part of a core of a Cd negative electrode and the opening hole part adjacent to the former. CONSTITUTION:A composite of CdO 73, powder 10, synthetic resin fiber 1, polyvinyl alcohol 1 and ethylene glycol 1 at a weight part display is mixed and kneaded up to the specified viscosity, producing a paste active material, and it is applied to a core plating Ni on a porous steel plate of 1-3mm in hole diameter and 40-60% in numerical aperture. At this time, the pastelike active material in a non-opening hole part 2 of the core is scraped off with hard rubber or the like. The pastelike active material is applied to an interval between first row single holes 1a of an opening part 1 adjacent to the non-opening hole part 2 with a metallic core where small holes (c), (d)... of about 1/2 in diameter.
