PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a data-controlling part of a printer, by using a counter provided in a printing data controlling part of a multi-head printer in common for a head spacing correcting operation and a test pattern printing operation. CONSTITUTION:A test pattern printing circuit 21 for printing a test pattern is provided. The circuit 21 is supplied with a one-line direction counter signal A from a selector 6 and with a horizontal line counter signal B from a counter 5. An address in a picture element selecting memory 21a storing data for selecting one picture element from 64 kinds of picture elements and an address in a picture element memory 21b storing 64 kinds of 16X16 dot picture elements are selected by two counters to form a test printing image on a recording paper. By switching the addresses in a delay data memory 7, delay in a vertical direction and delay in a horizontal direction can be independently controlled, and the data delay for correcting a head spacing can be used in common for reading of printing data for printing the test pattern. |
