PURPOSE:To provide the titled dispersing agent composed of a water-soluble salt of an aromatic olefin-maleic anhydride copolymer and a water-soluble salt of an aliphatic olefin-maleic anhydride copolymer, etc., exhibiting excellent dispersing activity even at high slurry concentration and capable of giving a CaCO3 slurry having excellent fluidity under high or low shearing force. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent can be produced by compounding (A) 95-50 pts.wt. of a water-soluble salt of an alkali metal compound of an aromatic olefin-maleic anhydride copolymer having an average molecular weight of 1,000-20,000 and a molar ratio of the unit originated from an aromatic olefin unit to the unit originated from the maleic anhydride of 2-4/1 and obtained by neutralizing the above copolymer with an alkali metal or NH3 to a neutralization degree of 0.1-1 and (B) 5-50pts.wt. of a water-soluble salt of a copolymer of a 2-12C straight-chain or branched aliphatic alpha-olefin and maleic anhydride (preferably an average molecular weight of 1,000-20,000) or (B') a water-soluble salt of a polymer (e.g. polyacrylic acid) composed mainly of an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and having an average molecular weight of 1,000-20,000.
