Foundry. The head for compacting by shock wave comprises: - an obturator system consisting of at least one light body 23, arranged freely in the reservoir 13 according to a vertical path between a lower seat 22 and an upper seat 21, - a stationary cylindrical casing 24 contributing to the determination of a portion of the vertical path of the free body which it surrounds, - and means for controlling the free body consisting of an inlet 19 for pressurised fluid, a pipe 18 venting to the free air and a three-way valve 17 for connecting the tube either with the inlet or with the pipe. Application to machines for moulding by means of compacting by shock wave. <IMAGE>
