The invention relates to the continuous preparation of particulate homopolymers of ethylene or copolymers of ethylene with alpha -monoolefins by catalytic polymerisation in a liquid alkane - in which the monomers or monomer mixture to be polymerised is in dissolved form, and the particulate polymer formed is in suspended form - as reaction medium, in the presence of an antistatic as an agent for preventing deposits on the walls, at elevated temperature and elevated pressure with circulation of the reaction mixture as a circulating stream to which the starting materials are added and from which the particulate polymer formed is removed, characterised in that the agent for preventing deposits on the walls is a salt mixture of (I) the calcium salt of medialanic acid and (II) the chromium salt of N-stearylanthranilic acid.
