PURPOSE:To improve precision on estimation of a running speed and further anti-skid control precision, by a method wherein, in relation to a maximum speed wheel detected by a rotation sensor, the magnitude of a reduction speed is set according to the magnitude of the detecting liquid pressure of oil fed to a brake. CONSTITUTION:Operation wherein an upper limit value is set by the upper limit value setting means of a control device 42 comprising mainly a computer 41 responding to the liquid pressures of brakes 18, 20, 22, and 24 of a maximum speed wheel detected by rotation sensors 44, 46, 48, and 50, is repeated. After the reduction speed of the maximum speed wheel is regulated to a valve equal to a set upper limit value, the reduction speed is fixed to the upper limit value by the control device 42 to estimate the running speed of a vehicle. Further, a pressure reducing time, in which a pressure reducing instruction is continued to be outputted to actuators 26, 28, 30, and 32 from the control device 42, is changed to a value increased or decreased according to the magnitude of a brake liquid pressure. This constitution improves precision on estimation of the running speed of the vehicle, resulting in the possibility to improve anti-skid control precision.
