The invention relates to a transition element in a transportation line for gases or fluids from a plastic pipe to a pipe element consisting of a different material, as well as a method and a device for the installation of this transition element. The object of the invention is to create a transition element which is of very simple construction, is also simple to install, can be produced cost-effectively and uses the otherwise undesirable flowing of the material of the plastic pipe to produce a sealed connection. The transition element according to the invention is distinguished by the fact that the pipe element has in the internal wall an annular recess or an annular bulge pointing outwards, that there is inserted into the plastic pipe a supporting pipe which, after insertion, is subjected to a shape change by widening out, and that a rubber ring is inserted into the recess or bulge, or that at least one annular recess for accommodating a sealing ring is arranged close to or in the recess or bulge.
