PURPOSE:To secure such a gear shaper cutter that is capable of performing reciprocation gear cutting, by each of the same shape cutting edges at both ends in the tooth trace direction of the gear shaper cutter. CONSTITUTION:Each of the same shape cutting edges 13 and 14 in a both front and rear parts at both sides in the tooth trace direction of a gear shaper cutter 12. And, an outer circumferential surface of the cutter 12 is ground into circular form by a large diametral grindstone 15 whereby a cutter circumferential lip angle is given. And, a side lip clearance is given by securing a hollow lead in the tooth trace direction at the time of tooth profile grinding. Using this cutter 12, cutting is carried out with a cutting edge 13 in an arrow down direction at an outward path and with a cutting edge 13 in an arrow R direction at a return path, respectively, thus reciprocation gear cutting is performable. With this constitution, even in case each interval between adjacent gears is narrow, gear cutting can be made possible and, what is more, the gear cutting for only a part of the central part in a face width direction is also made to be possible.
