<p>PURPOSE:To form an edge-type thermal head which is capable of high quality printing and reliable in performance by providing a breaking protection layer so as not to expose a feeder body layer if chippings generated by division processing are found and limiting the width of the feeder body layer. CONSTITUTION:A partial glazed layer 2, a heating resistor layer 3 and a feeder body layer 4 are laminated on an insulative substrate 1, and the feeder body layer 4 is formed through division so that the heating resistor layer 3 may be positioned on almost the apex of the partial glazed layer 2. At that time, the common feeder body layer 4 should be formed to the width of less than 150mum. Further a strip-like convex breaking protection layer 8 (almost 10mum wide) made of the same material as that of the feeder body layer 4a is arranged on the partial glazed layer 2 near the common feeder body layer 4a. In addition, the first protective layer 5 in SiO2 and the second protective layer 6 in Sa2O5 are formed on the breaking protection layer by means of sputtering. Then these are ground with a dicing saw within 0.25mm from the center of the heating resistor layer 3 in proximity of the breaking protection layer 8, and then are divided into thermal head chips.</p> |
