PURPOSE:To prevent the oscillation of the strip crystal and to obtain the flat strip crystal by using a stringy body made of a material which is wetted with a melt and is not deformed by the melt as a seed and sufficiently narrowing the clearance between limiters. CONSTITUTION:The strip crystal production device is composed as follows. A couple crystal end supporting materials are arranged in the direction vertical to the melt surface through the melt 2 and passed through the small holes bored through the bottom part of a crucible 6 contg. the melt 2 at an interval almost equal to the width of the strip crystal to be grown. The seed 1 is brought into contact with the melt between the couple of crystal end supporting materials and the crystal end supporting materials and the seed 1 is pulled up. In this case, stringy body made of a material which is wetted with the melt and is not deformed by the melt is used as the seed, and the stringy body is supported by another structure at right angles to the pulling direction. Carbon yarn 8 horizontally stretched at the leading end of carbon foil 101 is preferably used as the seed and the carbon yarn 8 is passed between two carbon sheets 401 and 402.
