In the case of a switched-mode power supply having a control circuit (which is preferably designed as an integrated circuit) and a power switching transistor, a first and a second transistor which can be driven by the control circuit are provided for supplying the base current of the power switching transistor in each case during the switching-on time and during the switching-off time (depletion time) of the power switching transistor. Further measures result in the transistors drawing no current during the starting phase of the control circuit, so that an auxiliary voltage source which is required during the starting phase is not additionally loaded. A considerable increase in power is achieved in comparison with known switched-mode power supplies.
