The invention relates to a process and a device for flushing a sanitary installation such as a toilet bowl (2), urinal or the like with water. The flushing cycle is divided up into two phases which are carried out one after the other chronologically and in which in each case a sub-quantity of flushing water is fed, in a manner appropriate for functioning, to the installation to be flushed. The flushing system (1) comprises a cylinder (5) with a piston (6). The piston moves back and forth in the cylinder once during the flushing cycle, flushing water flowing out of the area which is decreasing in size, and the area which is increasing in size being filled again with water in each case. <IMAGE>
