<p>A relatively large building 1 is of simple configuration, as is used typically for a factory or warehouse. The roof 2 is provided with an upper layer 3 of moisture absorbent material, such as a polyester/cotton fabric. A pipe 4 runs along the apex of the roof 2, and distributes water down onto the layer 3 of material, from a supply pipe 5. A gutter 6 is provided at the bottom of the roof 2, and is connected via an outlet pipe 7 to a water storage tank 8. A pump 9 responds to a thermostat 10/11 and is operative to pump water through the supply pipe 5 and through the pipe 4. The material layer 3 retains water on the surface of the roof, and thereby affords cooling by continuous evaporation of the water, in warm ambient temperatures.
