PURPOSE:To simplify the construction and to oscillate in high efficiency by composing a solid state laser medium by beryllium aluminum gallate doped with specific amount of chromium ions. CONSTITUTION:A solid state laser medium is composed of beryllium aluminum gallate crystal doped with chromium ions 0.001-2atom%. The medium exhibits wide phosphor spectral characteristic of 640-830nm (11,900-15,625cm<-1>), and a laser oscillation can occur in the wavelength range of 700nm to 830nm or higher. This range is variable and wide in width, extended in long wavelength side as compared with laser medium (Cr<3+>; BeAl2O4) of conventional beryllium aluminate crystal doped with Cr<3+>. Accordingly, when the medium is used, the wavelength can be sufficiently tuned in a wider wavelength range to infrared range to be applied not only in industry but in medical, biological and chemical fields. |
