MANUFACTURE OF CATHODE ACTIVE MATERIAL FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To obtain a cathode active material which does not give any adverse effect to the performance of an alkaline storage battery by boiling nickel hydroxide produced by making a nickel salt react with caustic alkali in an alkali solution. CONSTITUTION:Nickel hydroxide produced by making a nickel salt react with caustic alkali is boiled in an alkaline solution in order to remove anions such as nitrate ions and sulfate ions remaining in the nickel hydroxide. The amount of residual ions in the nickel hydroxide can be reduced in a short time and suppressed to a low level by adjusting the concentration of the alkaline solution used during boiling to at least 5mol/l.
