摘要 <p>A haul rope grip assemby (21, 121) for an aerial tramway which is suitable for both detachable and permanent gripping of the tramway haul rope (22, 122). The assembly (21, 121) includes a gripping head (23, 123) having a pair of relatively spaced apart converging haul rope gripping surfaces (38, 39, 128, 129) oriented for gravity biasing of the surfaces (38, 39, 128, 129) into wedging engagement with the haul rope (22, 122) under loading of the grip. Additionally, the assembly (21, 121) includes a jaw (24, 26, 131) positioned proximate the surfaces (38, 39, 128, 129) and formed to apply supplemental force to the haul rope (22, 122) in a direction tending to further wedge the haul rope (22, 122) between the gripping surfaces (38, 39, 128, 129). In the detachable grip assembly (21), a pair of movable jaws (24, 26) pivotally mounted and actuated by levers (32, 33) is disclosed. In the permanent grip assembly (121), the wedging surfaces (128, 129) are further oriented to increase wedging as the grip (121) passes around a horizontal bull wheel. The method of securing a grip assembly (21, 121) to an aerial tramway haul rope (22, 122) is also disclosed.</p>
