PURPOSE:To achieve stable discharge by making a hollow hole in one electrode then containing an axially movable X-ray generating material rod in said hollow hole section and projecting the tip section of said material from the surface of electrode. CONSTITUTION:When generating X-ray, the tip 20 of X-ray generating material 18 is pulled up to withstand against the charging voltage of capacitor. Upon finish of charging, the tip portion 19 of X-ray generating material is lowered to start discharge. Discharging current 21 will enter from the tip portion 19 of electrode 5 into X-ray generating material 18 then passes through a coaxial arc 22 to provide current 23 flowing in the electrode 6. The discharging energy will cause evaporation of X-ray generating material 18 at the projected portion to feed vapor 24 to the central section of coaxial arc 22. Upon advance of discharge, it will develop to Z-pinch phenomena through magnetic field produced by the discharging current itself to heat the vapor 24 to high temperature and to emit characteristic X-ray. |
