A support device is described, which can be arranged at the side of a WC and serves as a support for a WC seat, the support being arranged on a column of telescopic construction and equipped with a damped spring such as an air spring with a particular counterpressure and with a stop device for limiting the telescopic movement which limits the movement at least downwards to an adjustable height counter to the pressure of the gas spring. The support device constitutes an aid for the disabled.
