Watt-hour meter with demand responsive load control capability

The meter includes a unit (22) for measuring electrical energy consumption and providing a series of pulses each representative of a preselected quantity of consumption. A timer (18) provides a series of imino pulses. A microprocessor (14) is associated with the measuring unit and timer for measuring a demand interval of time and for determining the quantity of electrical energy consumption during the demand interval. The microprocessor compares the determined quantity of consumption during the demand interval with a demand threshold value and provide a signal when this threshold is exceeded. - A relay (32) is operated by this signal e.g. to shed a preselected non-essential electrical load so that the electrical energy demand of the consumer is reduced.
