The method involves substituting a substitution file to a predetermined file in a memory (16) of a terminal i.e. mobile telephone (10), where the predetermined file is preliminarily protected in a unit i.e. server (12), other than the terminal. The substitution file includes a content that is partially obtained from the predetermined file and has a size lesser than the predetermined file, where the server is accessed from the terminal in predefined conditions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for managing a memory (2) a data recording medium comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for managing a memory (3) a signal comprising a substitution file.
