PURPOSE:To separate a transfer material from a photosensitive body securely by varying the discharging current of an electrostatic charging means for electrostatic separation according to which of the top and reverse surfaces of a transfer material passes when the transfer material is guided to a copying processing part again. CONSTITUTION:The transfer material which is conveyed while passing through a fixing part after being separated electrostatically from the copying processing part is guided to the copying processing part again to be transferred and separated electrostatically. This electrostatic separating device brings the transfer paper 40 into contact with the surface of a photosensitive body 10 after processing before transfer is performed by a transfer guide 11 and them charges the reverse surface of the transfer paper 40 to the opposite polarity from toner by using a transfer charger 13 to transfer a toner image to the transfer paper 40 by utilizing electrostatic force. Then, charges that the transfer paper 40 receives during the transferring operation are discharged through the electrostatic charging of a separation charger 14 by AC discharge or DC discharge to the same polarity with the toner, thereby removing the electrostatic sticking force of the transfer paper 40 to a photosensitive body 10. Consequently, the transfer paper 40 is separated securely from the surface of the photosensitive body 10 by its own weight and elastic force.
