PURPOSE:To prevent the damage and to execute the long life by composing of an FG detecting device provided at the capstan motor, the counter and the system control device to stop the reverse rotation of the capstan motor when the number of the count set beforehand is reached. CONSTITUTION:When a capstan 4 is stopped, a motor driving signal 16 and a rotating direction signal 17 are generated from a control device 14 to a motor driving circuit 15, and the cpastan 4 is reversely rotated. A video tape 2 sandwiched between pinch rollers 3 is returned in the reverse direction, an FG detecting device 11 sends an FG pulse signal 19 to an amplifier 12, and an amplified FG pulse signal 20 is inputted and counted to a counter 13. At the counter 13, the numeric equivalent to the loosening quantity of the suitable video tape 2 is set beforehand, when the counted FG pulse signal 20 is coincident with the numeric, a counting completion signal 21 is sent to the control device 14, the rotation stop of a capstan motor 19 if commanded, the positive rotation is returned, a counting resetting signal 22 is sent to the counter 13, and zero is returned. Thus, the damage and the reduction of the life of the video tape are prevented.
